SAMUEL STUDIO

After having finished this client’s home in the California desert (see: Desert Jewel Box in this Portfolio), they asked me to renovate their 1906 Edwardian home in San Francisco back to what they thought it may have looked like at the end of the Gilded Age. Even though most of the original detail had been ripped out during the 60s, 70s and 80s, it was exciting to study turn-of-the-century crown moulding, wainscoting, cabinetry, hardware, color and tile, and then restoring as much of it as we could back into their home as part of the overall interior design plan. Though it’s true we took a modern-day liberty of installing a backlit onyx bar that was probably not thought of in 1906, it nevertheless blends right into the home’s old world aesthetic.
